Connect Marrickville SaCC is a school as community centre (SaCC), funded under the Families NSW initiative and administered through the Department of Education to support families raising young children from birth to 8 years in the local area.
Based in the grounds of Marrickville West Public School the centre offers a range of activities and services to families living in Marrickville south, regardless of which school they select for their children.
Connect Marrickville SaCC aims to:
- increase supportive connections for families
- increase use of health and community services, resources and activities
- increase social, emotional and communication skills for school preparedness
- promote early literacy for children
- increase community engagement and participation.
Connect Marrickville SaCC does a range of activities such as:
- supported playgroups
- mothers and other social groups (Japanese mothers group, Vietnamese Families group)
- adult education with childcare
- parenting groups ("Black Box Parenting", "Anxiety Coach")
- community cultural development (Mini Mela, cultural cooking exchange)
- early literacy engagement (annual reading day, stortimes in the community)
