Connect Marrickville
Connect Marrickville' is a school as community centre (SaCC), funded under the Families NSW initiative and administered through the Department of Education to support families raising young children from birth to 8 years in the local area.
Based in the grounds of Marrickville West Public School the centre offers a range of activities and services to families living in Marrickville south, regardless of which school they select for their children.
Connect Marrickville' aims to:
- increase supportive connections for families
- increase use of health and community services, resources and activities
- increase social, emotional and communication skills for school preparedness
- promote early literacy for children
- increase community engagement and participation.
Connect Marrickville does a range of activities such as:
- supported playgroups (multi-mix mob aboriginal playgroup, babies and tots playgroup, Friday supported playgroup)
- mothers and other social groups (Japanese mothers group, Vietnamese Mothers group, the afternoon playgroup), holiday club
- adult education with creche (English classes and other TAFE outreach courses)
- parenting groups ("Parenting between cultures")
- kids and dads nights
- community cultural development (dance around the world, bilingual storytelling circles, cultural cooking exchange).
