Marrickville West parents and citizens association (P&C) is a group of mums, dads, carers and caring community friends who are interested in knowing more about Marrickville West Primary School (MWPS). We want to make it a better place for the kids to learn and a friendly hub of the South Marrickville community. By being involved in the P&C you show your child that you think their school and education is important.
We have a great relationship with the Principal, Ruth Bradfield-Ling, and the staff. At meetings, you hear more about the behind-the-scenes running of the school and give your opinion on what the school does well or how we can make it better.
As well as sharing information and thoughts, the P&C aims to improve the school by raising money for programs and items the school could not normally afford.
The best way to be involved in the P&C is to come along to meetings. Meetings are held twice a Term, in Weeks 3 and 8 of each Term, on a Thursday. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in December elects the P&C president, vice presidents, secretary, treasurer and canteen leader for the following year.
The P&C executive are great connection points for the P&C. You can get in contact with us in various ways find us in the school playground or at a meeting However, the effectiveness of the executive relies on a vibrant group of members. Any parent, carer or interested community member can join.
Details of meetings
A week before each meeting an agenda will be sent home to each family to let you know what issues are due to be discussed. The principal and other staff members come along to discuss current issues in the school. Other items such as fundraising activities are talked about and reports are given on various activities such as the canteen, landscaping improvements in the school or the film club. Anyone wishing to raise an issue should let the secretary know (email: marrickvillewestpublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au) at least 9 days before the meeting to have it added to the agenda. Or you can attend a meeting and raise the issue which will then be discussed at the next meeting.
Other ways of Involvement
We understand not everyone can make it to meetings but there are many other ways to get involved. We run a range of regular and one-off activities that always need volunteers such as cafe west, school banking, the school band, second-hand uniform stalls, updating the website and fundraising BBQs.
If none of these options suit you there are other ways you can help the school such as helping out in classrooms, with literacy programs and attending excursions. These activities are run through the school, rather than the P&C, so contact your child's teacher, the principal or the school office.
